The Customs House & Bangladesh Customs Academy project represents a visionary approach to institutional architecture in Chattogram, Bangladesh’s principal port city. Located across strategically selected sites in Chattogram, the development responds to the city’s maritime legacy, urban fabric, and subtropical climate through expressive yet highly functional design.

Customs House Chattogram, situated on a 6.75-acre site at latitude 22.3119° N and longitude 91.7987° E, draws inspiration from Chattogram’s long-standing connection to global trade and seafaring. Its dynamic form echoes the flowing hull of a cargo ship navigating the Bay of Bengal, with stacked and cantilevered floor plates that curve organically to symbolize movement, connectivity, and commerce. The design integrates key public and support facilities including a plaza, cafeteria, mosque, and landscaped open spaces, ensuring seamless functionality while creating a strong civic presence.

Complementing this, the Bangladesh Customs Academy is developed on a 38.67-acre site at latitude 22.3555° N and longitude 91.7700° E, envisioned as a “living layer within the urban canopy.” The campus prioritizes a close relationship between built form and nature, featuring two external plazas, two internal courtyards, and ground-level voids that promote natural ventilation, daylight, and shaded communal interaction. Roof terraces extend learning and administrative activities outdoors, while landscaped zones foster relaxation and collaboration.

Across both components, climate-responsive strategies are embedded into the architecture. Horizontal façade bands vary in depth to control solar gain, enhance energy efficiency, and reinforce the project’s sustainable ethos. Together, the Customs House and Customs Academy form a cohesive institutional landmark that balances operational efficiency, environmental responsibility, and architectural identity—setting a new benchmark for public sector development in Chattogram.
